There are 1,745 dams (excluding mine tailing dams) on U.S. Forest Service (USFS) lands that meet the requirements of the National Inventory of Dams. The Forest Service owns and operates 499 of these dams. The remainder are not owned by the Forest Service but are operated under Special Use Permit or other authorities.
